Our History
Sharp’s Pawn Shop opened its second location in Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1989 by then owners Dewight and Mary Pruett. In 1992, the second owners, Leon and Judy Smith purchased the business. Being surrounded by five tribes, Ponca, Tonkawa, Kaw, Osage and Otoe-Missouria, it wasn’t long before locals began to ask then employee, now current owner, Mary Robinson to carry craft supplies.
What started off with a few hanks of 10/0 seed beads and basic colors of shawl fringe quickly flourished into the Sharp’s we know today. Expanding to carry everything one may need to make regalia of both Northern and Southern styles, all while employing local artist by keeping quality ready-made Southern style regalia in store.
We moved to our current location at 118 South 2nd Street in historic downtown Ponca City in 2003. Our two story red brick building we now call home was once Ponca's first Ford dealership.
The Premier Oklahoma Regalia and Supply Store.
Sharp's carries a vast selection of hand made creations, but you will also find the likes of 49Dzine, Anishinaabe Bimishimo, Teton Trade Cloth, NDN Regalia, Barking Waters Clothing Company, Cascade Yarn, and a excellent selection of hand crafted sterling silver and turquoise pieces made by some of the finest silversmith's. At Sharp’s Indian Store, we strive every day to carry quality, handmade regalia and beadwork, most of which is made locally, with the exception of those who trade with on the powwow trail. Providing artist information and supporting the artist is very important to us, if the artist name is not displayed with their work, it is because they have requested it not be displayed publicly. We enjoy making new friends, trading and sharing Oklahoma’s rich culture, and have thoroughly enjoyed providing goods to help keep culture and artistry alive. Over the years we have had the privilege of watching children grow and be a small part of dressing yet another generation to enter the circle.
If you are ever traveling Interstate 35 in Oklahoma, take a break, turn off on the “214 Tonkawa and Ponca City exit” for a short 15-minute drive to our shop.
