Moccasin Soles
Latigo comes in various forms. Red Latigo is Oil-treated, tanned cowhide. These are the softest soles, best for dancing only on soft ground or inside. As feet often tend to sweat, the moisture can cause the leather's dye to bleed. This will stain the bottom of your feet or socks red. Red latigo is considered the easiest to sew, but still requires a awl to attach to a moccasin. For storage, it is recommended that you store your moccasins sole to sole so that the dye does not stain your buckskin or beadwork. The tan cowhide is considered to have a medium durability. Although sweat and moisture will change the color of the sole itself, no dye will effect your feet, socks or regalia. White latigo is the most durable of these soles. These are very hard and should be soaked before you cut or pre poke your holes for moccasin making. Sold in pairs.
